Week 11

A busy weekend for some and a busy week ahead.

Lots of production practice, a bit of poetry writing and tidying up of loose ends!

Remember  - Dress rehearsal for school production tomorrow!

Last week in review

Camp Kaitawa notice #1 went out (copy on 'Camp Page') - if you would like to help out on camp, please complete brief survey to me by Wednesday.

Room 6 cyclists excel!
Congratulations to Elise, Grace, Molly and Imogen who won the Year 7/8 Girls Team Time Trial Trophy at the HB Cycling Champs on Saturday.  Fantastic effort from the Boys team to finish 3rd in an extremely competitive event.

It is always difficult competing against older students but the task is even harder when they happen to be ex-pupils.

Congratulations to Harry for a 3rd place in the individual road race (won by Year 8 Will T) An amazing effort by  Molly (4th behind Lily and Katelyn) and Marcus who rode competitively for 42km over the 2 days!

Camp Notice # 1

Room 6 @ CAMP KAITAWA 2015
Notice #1
UPDATE – 24th June
Dear Parent/Caregivers

I have had a few queries about camp recently plus I need to collect a bit of information from parents to help with my planning so here is the official update.

Room 6 will be visiting Camp Kaitawa near Lake Waikaremoana in November.  It is a fantastic area for an outdoor education experience as it provides a range of activities to suit all abilities and it will be a wonderful venue to celebrate a year’s learning.
·         Dates booked are 17th - 20th November (3 nights, 4 days).
·         The camp is approximately 185km from Haumoana.
·         Transport will be by minivan and/or private vehicle depending on parent numbers and support.
·         Activities may include:  kayaking, swimming, caving, confidence course, cooking and team challenges and bush walks.
·         Pupil Contribution - preliminary estimate $190 per child.  This does not include any fundraising.  Automatic payments can now be arranged with the office to ensure full payment before camp.
·         Early feedback from parents has shown a lot of interest in attending therefore a ballot may be required.
·         Any parent wanting to be involved in menu/food organisation, please contact me.

Fundraising
·         Fundraising activities started last weekend and there will be more events planned for the next term.
·         Funds raised from these weekend activities will be allocated proportionally to reduce the costs of those students/parents directly involved.
·         If you have any ideas for fundraising please contact me at school.

Please complete this brief survey and return this form to me by 30th June.
(This survey is to indicate expressions of interest only and is to assist me with planning)

Thanks for your support
David Barclay

Week 10

Check out the children's Blogs from last week.  Our statistics learning included presenting information on spreadsheets.

The gymnasts also had a successful day out - photos to be shared soon.

The NYLD group have shared their thoughts on their day in Palmerston North.

Today (Sunday) we had the first camp fundraiser at school.  We supplied food and drinks to the athletes competing in the TriHB Duathlon.

Unfortunately the last school orienteering event was cancelled/postponed today due to rising water levels in the Tuki Tuki River.  Part of all courses went through the normally dry overflow channel.

This week, Statistics will continue along with Matariki study and the children will have a choice of writing with a focus on adding more detail to their chosen genre.

Interschool netball takes place at HSP on Wednesday from 9.30am until 12.30.  Thanks you to those parents who have volunteered to assist me with the teams.

The HB Schools Cycling Championships take place this weekend.  Eleven year 5/6 students will be competing in the Intermediate grade in a 16km Team Time Trial and a 25km Road Race.  Room 6 girls won this event last year.  Good luck to all competitors!

We will also be practicing for the End of Term Production.

Clothing that is required for the event is listed below. If you have extra items that can be shared, please let me know.

  • 5 & 6 girls - Plain, bright t-shirts and gathered skirts, black shorts or tights underneath.
  • 5 & 6 boys - Gardening clothes, bare feet.
